| Purpose The purpose of this wiki is to compile together ideas on implementing blogs in early years classrooms. We invite anyone who is interested in blogging in early education to use and contribute ideas to this site. Please feel free to contribute ideas to the four different categories on the left: Scope and Sequence - expectations for student involvement from Pre-K to Grade 2 Security Issues -safety considerations in implementing blogs in the classroom Blogging Tools - a variety of media applications Blog Ideas -different ways to use the blog Also, if you have a blog you want to share, or you come across a nice classroom blog, please add it to our Sample Blogs page. The International School Manila page was established by the creators to help facilitate the introduction of blogging at our international school. That page is limited to the teachers and administrators at ISM. Why Blogs??? Blogs have great potential to improve communication with parents. Videos, photos, pictures of work, sound bytes, etc., can all explicitly show the learning that takes place in our early years classrooms. At the same time, blogs provide children with a new medium for self expression, sharing work, telling stories, celebrating learning, and teaching others what they have learned. Over on ICT in Early Education there is a great post entitled, What does blogging offer children's education? The author writes: We hope this wiki helps support teachers that have a goal of using blogs to communicate more effectively with parents and provide students with another meaningful medium to communicate and share ideas."Blogging provides for an authentic audience. It is not just the teacher who assesses children's learning. It is not just the Mums, Dads and Grandparents who smile with pride at their children's progress proudly displayed on the kitchen fridge (although both the afore-mentioned are naturally and vitally important). There is however, a world of bloggers, blog readers, children and educators who are addressed, considered, and valued by children who blog." | |
